Aside from the film itself, the “90404 Changing” project has several other aspects. They are as follows:
We plan to stage a number of these events at local parks, theaters, libraries, etc. for the purpose of engaging local citizenry in a dialogue about the form and nature of community within the city.
We are actively preparing an educational package to support the film. This will include a syllabus and a book that would accompany the film as it is used in college and high-school classrooms. A number of academics and urban planners will serve as advisors and experts to help form these materials.
We intend to create a searchable video/audio database that would be accessed via the internet or on DVDs at the local library. Since such a small portion of the interviews we filmed are included in the finished film, we felt it would be useful have the entire unedited interviews, along with transcripts, made available for study and research. We intend to donate this database to the Santa Monica Public Library when completed. Any person or organization wishing to support the mission of “90404 Changing” can make donations for any of the above activities to the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica. The 18th Street Arts Center, a 501c3 non-profit, has agreed to act as a receiver for donations to this project and will administer the application of any donated funds to the project. We are also seeking financial support and/or investors to help defray the production costs of making the film. While produced and self-financed on a “shoestring”, the costs have been substantial. Investors are welcome! |
